Sigal Tsabari סיגל צברי

Sigal Tsabari, instructor of Sunday and Tuesday adult drawing courses and the Sunday youth painting class, was born in Haifa in 1966.  She first trained under Israel Hershberg at the Avni Institute from 1986 to 1988, and since 2006 she has been teaching in the Continuing Studies program at the Jerusalem Studio School.  Sigal has been exhibiting her works since 1995 in both Israel and abroad, including the Israel Museum and the Artists House in Jerusalem, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art and various galleries.  When not teaching her very popular courses at JSS, she works in her home studio in Rishon Le Zion.

“Sigal Tsabari, who studied with Israel Hershberg prior to the establishment of the Jerusalem Studio School, has developed over the years a unique pictorial language, both technically – in her color palette and in the use of various media on one painting – and in her subject matter.  Tsabari engages in a sort of pursuit after nature:  she follows almost scientifically the development of plants growing in buckets on her balcony, depicting the changing hues of an eggplant and the enlarged shape of the okra fruit, which she doesn’t pick until the fruit dries off and hangs from the branch like a dead appendage.  Such arrangements are often juxtaposed with images taken from her personal and family life.  The growth of a plant serves as a metaphor for the growth of a person, or the growth of a child in the uterus.  Themes of sexuality and motherhood comprise an important aspect of her work, as expressed in images of fertility and growth in nature.”

סיגל צברי, המנחה של קורסי הרישום למבוגרים בימי ראשון ושלישי ושל כיתת הציור לנוער בימי ראשון, נולדה בחיפה ב-1966. תחילה הוכשרה בהנחייתו ישראל הרשברג במכון אבני בתל-אביב, מ- 1986 ועד 1988, ומאז 2006 היא מלמדת בתוכנית ללימודי המשך בסדנא לציור ורישום בירושלים. סיגל מציגה את עבודותיה מאז 1995 בישראל ובעולם, בין השאר במוזיאון ישראל ובבית האמנים בירושלים, במוזיאון תל אביב ובגלריות שונות. כשאיננה מלמדת בקורסים המבוקשים מאוד שלה בסדנא לציור ורישום בירושלים, היא עובדת בסטודיו שבביתה בראשון לציון.

סיגל צברי, שלמדה אצל ישראל הרשברג לפני הקמת הסדנא לציור ורישום ירושלים, פיתחה במרוצת השנים שפה ציורית ייחודית, הן מבחינה טכנית – בפאלטה הצבעונית שלה ובשימוש במדיות שונות בציור אחד – והן בנושאיה. צברי עוסקת בכעין מרדף אחר הטבע: היא מתחקה כמעט באופן מדעי אחר התפתחות השתילים הצומחים בדליים על מרפסתה, ומתארת את  הגוונים המשתנים של החציל ואת הצורה המוגדלת של פרי הבמיה, שהיא קוטפת רק לאחר שהפירות התייבשו, והם תלויים מן הענף כמו ספיח מת. תסדירים כאלה עומדים לעתים קרובות כניגוד לדימויים הלקוחים מחייה האישיים והמשפחתיים. גדילת הצמח משמשת מטאפורה לגדילתו של אדם או לגדילת העובר ברחם. תימות של מיניות ושל נשיות מהוות היבטים חשובים בעבודתה, כפי שהדבר מקבל ביטוי בדימויים של פוריות ושל צמיחה בטבע
