Amir Rubin עמיר רובין

Amir Rubin was born and raised in Mexico until the age of 10, with abundant exposure to local art and Catholic culture. The land of Mexico is full with ancient arts as well as modern murals and works of magnitude, and artists are respected and celebrated. He studied music and painting for as long as he can remember, shifting from one to the other. He performed as a musician and exhibited paintings and drawings since the age of 16.

Amir studied sound engineering in Sydney and Berlin and worked as a recording engineer with every possible sort of ensemble, from rock and metal bands to symphonic ensembles. He worked some time as an assistant Tonemeister, and learned the art of acoustic-instrument reproduction from the best masters in Germany.

In the end he went back to studying plastic arts, enrolling in BA studies of the Arts at the Tel-Hai college in Kiryat Shmone and the Haifa University in Israel. Amir lived in Haifa and was involved in various projects, recording and exhibitions, becoming very active in the local scene and often to the dismay of his worried parents.

After 2 years, as there was no one to teach him about painting from observation, he left this path and started his own self education in this field. Amir spent ten years painting before he found out that Israel Hershberg’s school even existed. He then moved to Jerusalem and enrolled in the school in 2004. Now living in Jerusalem for ten years, he hardly ever agree to leave the city unless it has to do with painting outside somewhere. Amir’s teaching philosophy is that “without borders, freedom is meaningless.” He teaches “Discovering Freedom in Monochrome” in the JSS Continuing Studies Program.

עמיר רובין נולד במקסיקו וגדל בה עד גיל עשר, שם נחשף לשפע רב של אמנות מקומית ותרבות קתולית. מקסיקו היא ארץ המלאה באמנויות עתיקות נוסף על ציורי קיר מודרניים ויצירות חשובות, ואמנים זוכים בה לכבוד ולהוקרה

מאז שזיכרונו מגיע למד מוסיקה וציור, ועבר כל העת בין שתיהן. הוא הופיע כמוסיקאי והציג עבודות ציור ורישום מאז גיל 16. עמיר למד הנדסת קול בסידני ובברלין ועבד כמהנדס הקלטות עם כל ההרכבים האפשריים, מלהקות רוק ומטאל ועד להרכבים סימפוניים. הוא עבד כעוזר למנהל הקלטות, ולמד את אמנות השחזור של כלים אקוסטיים מטובי רבי-האמנים בתחום בגרמניה

בסופו של דבר חזר ללמוד את האמנויות הפלסטיות, ונרשם ללימודי ב.א. באמנויות במכללת תל-חי שבקריית שמונה ובאוניברסיטת חיפה. עמיר התגורר בחיפה והיה מעורב בפרויקטים שונים, בהקלטות ובתערוכות, ונעשה פעיל ביותר בסצנה המקומית, לעתים קרובות למורת רוחם של הוריו המודאגים

מקץ שנתיים, מאחר שלא היה מי שיקנה לו את אמנות הציור מתוך התבוננות, נטש את הנתיב הזה והחל ללמד את עצמו את התחום. עמיר צייר במשך עשר שנים עד שלמד על קיומו של ישראל הרשברג. אז עקר לירושלים ונרשם ללימודים בסדנא ב-2004. הוא גר בעיר זה עשר שנים, ובקושי מסכים לצאת ממנה אלא אם כן מדובר ביציאה לצורך ציור בטבע היכן שהוא. פילוסופיית ההוראה של עמיר אומרת, ש”בלי גבולות, לחופש אין פשר”. הוא מלמד “לגלות את החופש במונוכרום” בתוכנית ללימודי המשך של הסדנא לציור ורישום בירושלים
