The JSS Continuing Studies Program offers instruction in painting and drawing to the public of all ages, with no prior experience required. Students are welcome to enroll throughout the year.

The JSS drawing courses are designed to transmit the most essential tools of drawing to students at all levels of experience and ability. Along with the live model, still life and portraiture, copying from the Masters is an integral part of the course of study. Slide lectures offer understanding of the elements shared by great drawings throughout the history of Western art.

The development of the fall and spring semesters culminates in an intensive month-long drawing project at the end of the year. The aim of this final project is to explore the various pictorial, anatomical, and perceptual data that are involved in realizing a large-scale figurative work, utilizing the knowledge and skills accumulated during the year of drawing in the studio.

Observation of light and shade, geometry, materials and methods are emphasized in the studio. The knowledge gained from intensive practice combined with the serious atmosphere of a committed peer group provide the background for each individual student’s experience of confronting nature.

English  information, schedule and registration forms are followed by the hebrew posters as well as downloadable files.

The JSS painting courses offer students an opportunity to explore materials and techniques of oil painting and the challenges of confronting nature with this medium. Emphasis is given to personal instruction and individual development. Students address still-life, landscape and the figure, with enrichment from slide lectures and critique. The intensive year-long courses will greatly expand the student’s possibilities in approach to motif and proficiency with the essential tools of painting.

I’m a painting student from California in Israel for 6 months. There are several courses I would really gain from. Is it possible to be part of the class for only 6 months?
