ITALY PROGRAM
The JSS Summer Italy Program 2012 has been given its own, separate website: CLICK HERE
This year we are happy to announce that our summer program is moving to Civita Castellana, just one hour north of Rome. Civita is a small, beautiful, friendly town in what was once a hub of Etruscan civilization in ancient Italy. JSS in Civita is a unique opportunity to experience and paint in the historical epicenter of outdoor landscape painting in Italy. Here among the impressive cliffs, gorges, ruins, castles, forts and pastures, all majestically administered by the legendary Monte Soratte, is this year’s locus for the JSS summer program in Italy.
Civita and the Roman Campagna was a center of attraction to Corot, Turner, Granet, Michallon, Valenciennes, Bertin and the many others who came to paint not only in Civita, but the spectacular nearby sites such as Nepi, Castel Sant‘Elia, Calcata and Ronciglione. Other favored sites such as Papigno, Terni, Cascada del Marmore and Lago Piediluco are just to the north. In short, a painters dream.
