The Jerusalem Studio School is pleased to announce the 12th annual JSS Landscape Painting Marathon from May 15-26, 2011
Established to celebrate the pictorial beauty of Jerusalem, the JSS Landscape Painting Marathon has become a tradition each spring, involving artists from Israel and abroad. Participants paint daily with a variety of instructors from 8:30 am to 6 pm in diverse plein-air settings. This year’s guest artist is Kurt Knobelsdorf, a young artist based in Miami, Florida and represented by Steven Harvey Fine Arts Projects in New York. Besides teaching during the Marathon, Knobelsdorf will be providing two demonstrations, two lectures, an exhibition of his works and a final group critique together with Israel Hershberg, the Artistic Director and Founder of the JSS. Open to professional and novice artists, registration is required as the number of participants is limited each day. For further details and registration, please call: 02 671 9525 or email jss@netvision.net.il.

Gallery of paintings from past Marathons:

The Jerusalem Landscape Painting Marathon is an unforgettable and singular landscape painting event. Past marathons have been led by noted painters such as John Dubrow, Nicholas Evans-Cato, Neil Riley, and Stuart Shils. Not only does the marathon provide an opportunity to sharpen the painter’s skills in choosing, observing and recording a motif in nature, but it offers a chance to work in the clear, brilliant light of Jerusalem, among the hills, architecture and vegetation which evoke so much about this part of the world. The rich and varied motifs which the landscapes of Jerusalem offer never fail to excite natives and visitors alike – stone and arch, olive, cypress and palm punctuate the desert hills; or if you wish, the urban landscape sparkles in stark contrast. We take seriously our vision of developing Jerusalem into one of the world’s great cultural centers. We also believe that artists’ paintings of Jerusalem today will become our images of Jerusalem in the future.
